Making it to the Finish Line

I’m happy to be back to writing my blog and newsletter after some pretty exciting weeks.  In addition to spending a wonderful weekend celebrating my lovely stepdaughter’s graduation (with her nursing degree AND with honors) from Drexel University,  I’m also proud to report that I made it to the finish line of the Camino!

That pic is in front of the Santiago de Compostela Cathedral doing what one should do after hiking over 100 miles and almost 800 flights of stairs….eat ice cream.

I’m still trying to process and absorb the whole experience.

I’ve got loads of pics on Facebook, so if you want to get a better sense of the Camino, aside from the ice cream, you can check the pics out here.

I also teamed up with my partner in crime, ER, to record a daily podcast of our experience.  You can listen to it here. They are generally about ten minutes long and can give you a sense of the journey and some of the lessons we learned along the way.  We’ll be recording another tomorrow night with our final reflections.

In a nutshell, I am proud.  I made it to the finish line.  I pushed beyond what I thought were my physical and mental limits.  As you’ll hear on the podcast, I was pretty much in tears by the end of one day, and received some gifts along the Camino that kept me going. The Camino has a lesson for you every day if you pay attention.

My intention for the trip was to release and to receive.  There were ample opportunities to do both, and that topic could probably fill several blogs.

At the Pilgrim’s mass, surrounded by 1500 other weary travelers, and the spectacular botafumerio (seriously, check that thing out!) swaying over head, I was brought to tears once again. This time, not from the pain of shin splints, but from the powerful connection that exists between all beings.  In this case, we traveled the same path, but our journeys were all unique.

Beyond the Camino, beyond Santiago, we may be traveling very different paths, but still that connection is there.

And that is simply the fundamental desire to love and to be loved.

I have unwavering faith that we are all capable and deserving of both, and that I (and YOU) can do ANYTHING!

Buen Camino!
