Last month I attended a women’s entrepreneurial networking event where they offered headshots.
Since I needed a new one for the increasing number of speaking engagements I’m doing, I wanted to jump on the offer.
I shared one of the two final products on Facebook and got a lot of Likes and lovely compliments. Thanks for that.
Social media can tend to generate a lot of ‘compare and despair.’ I know I can easily fall into that trap.
As I scroll through my feed I start thinking…. “Her life looks so much more interesting, his travels are more exciting, her body is so much better, her business is more successful.”
Sigh…whoas me. I suck. Everyone is so far ahead of me.
But seriously!
Here is the reality of this photo:
- My mastermind tribe helped me select the right color to wear (group effort!)
- My mom lent me the top
- I had a professional stylist do my hair
- I had a make up artist do my make up and she even gave me some fake lashes (gotta say I was kinda mesmerized by them)
- I spent a total of 90 minutes in hair and make up
- The photographer (Nikki Stanek), not only did a great job on posing me and capturing the shot, she also photo shopped it a bit (my wrinkly elbow was even more weirdly wrinkling than it looks like in this pic, among other things).
Sure it is me, and I think it’s a good picture of me, but the reality of the situation is that it truly did take a village.
So next time you compare yourself to anyone’s life on social media, know that there is likely a lot behind the scenes going on in someone’s life.
The reality is that you are in the right place right now and are perfect and worthy just as you are. No photoshopping (or fake lashes) necessary.
