I love the smell of Basil. It reminds me of arriving at my grandmother’s house (my mom’s Italian side of the family). She grew copious Basil plants on her side porch, just next to the glider seat (loved that swing!). Upon entering the house the scent of basil (and oregano and other good smells) permeated the air from the pot of sauce on the stove.
Our olfactory senses are ten times stronger than our other senses, and scents, particularly from essential oils, can invoke memories and emotions. That must explain why I’m so easily transported to High Point Drive when I smell Basil.
This week I’m diffusing Basil in my kitchen each morning. It’s a delicious strong smell and it’s also the Oil of Renewal which seems apropos this month as we embark on a new year.
