Tomorrow is the first day of December. The Christmas countdown will be upon us. Here are the two things I’m focusing on for December.
Keep it simple . A few years ago I decided to par down what I was doing for the holidays. I asked the family (including myself) what their favorite part of the holiday season was…if they were only to keep one tradition. Of course I didn’t scrap it all, but it helped me to understand what is important, and eliminate what isn’t.
For example, writing Christmas cards felt like a big chore hanging over my head. So I stopped sending them (feel free to keep sending me yours, I do like getting them). I send just a couple to older relatives who are looking for them.
Hosting Christmas Eve dinner however is an absolute favorite tradition and I go all out on that. This allows me to really truly enjoy the good stuff that makes me happy, not stressed.
Make self care and health a priority. Don’t wait for January. I make sure I find time every day for self care whether it’s my yoga practice, a soak in the tub with essential oils, or curling up in front of the fire with a good book. As far as health goes, I actually think it’s also a good time to make health a priority. Sure, there will be more temptations than usual, but why not pump your health efforts NOW.
I’ve been practicing a variety of 30 day “challenges” although I’m calling them experiments (sounds less taxing that way).
I decided that December I will experiment with having a green juice every day (getting an early start with that yummy one on the pic that I made the other day). I’ve been a big green juice person for awhile, but the past several months I’ve fallen off the wagon. I could blame it on my travel this year, or sheer laziness, but nevertheless, this experiment is designed to jump start, or should I say re-start, my green juice habit. Plus, by putting it out there, I’m holding myself more accountable. I’ll be posting some of my concoctions on my Facebook page and Instagram, so stay tuned. I’d love to see yours as well!
That way when January 1 rolls around, I should already be back in the swing. I’d love to have company, so let me know if you’d like to join me. I’m thinking of other fun experiments for the New Year (30 days of chocolate, anyone?).
So that’s it….my simple Christmas list for December.
